We're Platform XII

Thanks for taking the time to make your way over here. Platform XII is a legal services platform and consultancy, conceived by a couple of lawyers who, after a number of years in the City, decided they wanted to do things a little differently in the market of legal services provision.

So, what do we do?

We work with global brands and scale-ups who need their lawyers to be proactive, clear and practical in the delivery of advice, without the fence-sitting, legalese or grey suits. Although, we do sometimes wear suits and sometimes in grey.

Whether you’re looking for interim legal resources, trying to grow or sell your business, looking to back new or mature ventures, or protect or develop your relationships or brand, we can help.

We’ll guide you through the legals in a way that’s accessible and helps you get the best value out of your lawyers. We like to think we’re nice too.

A bit about us

We’re not seeking to reinvent the practice of law, but we do want to strip back the way things are done, back to some really important things for us: transparency and common sense.

How we can help you

In-house counsel solutions

First legal hire: Our clients, large and small, have found that by outsourcing some or all of their legal needs to us, they’re able to refocus on strategic deals that help grow their business and reduce legal costs. If you are looking to hire your first lawyer but aren’t sure if you need someone full-time or permanently, we can provide flexibility allowing you to road-test what you need. We’ll also work with you to design your future legal resourcing. Overflow: No matter how well resourced your internal team is, there will be times where you need an extra pair of hands. Our overflow services are provided by lawyers who have real in-house experience and can parachute into your organisation, picking up work seamlessly as an extension of your team.

We’ve worked in tech, FMCG, logistics, automotive, asset and wealth management, corporate real estate, financial services, venture capital, e-commerce platforms and more! So, if you need holiday cover or have an influx of Schrems II or Brexit paper remediation work, we can help.

Commercial and technology

We provide a range of services to businesses of all sizes including advice on commercial contracts, services agreements, e-commerce terms, outsourcing arrangements, procurement deals and SaaS products. We can help you decide what’s important to push for and invest your time in protecting.

Advertising, marketing and sponsorship

We’ve negotiated some of the biggest corporate sponsorship event deals, launched a YouTube channel in the UK for a global brand, provided copy clearance for TV, radio and digital in line with regulatory codes and trained up sales teams so they can self-serve. So, whatever your content and marketing needs, we can assist.

Corporate and investments

If you are a company looking to raise capital or an investor looking to invest in a business or a collective investment with other investors, we can assist you. We also advise on business sales, acquisitions, private equity investment, management buy outs and investment funds (both LP and GP).

Media and intellectual property

After all the hard work you put in to creating and building a brand, we’re here to support you with protecting, commercialising and defending it. It might be a new app, a food brand, a song or your social media persona. We’ll help you identify the best way to protect, commercialise and grow your ideas and content.

The directors of Platform XII Limited are Melin Tarafdar and Tanveer Tarafdar.

The term ‘partner’ is used to refer to a shareholder of Platform XII Limited or an employee or consultant with equivalent standing and qualifications.

Tanveer is a corporate lawyer with experience in private funds, corporate, M&A, finance and general commercial matters.

Tanveer read Mathematics and Philosophy at Kings College, London before taking the legal conversion course at BPP Law School and completing the Legal Practice Course at University of Westminster. He trained at a niche commercial practice in London working with large international companies and financial institutions, mainly from Turkey and South Korea such as Koç Holding (owner of white goods manufacturer Beko), Turkiye Iş Bankası, Samsung Group and Hyundai.

He then joined the corporate team in the London office of Dundas & Wilson (which was eventually acquired by CMS Cameron McKenna) advising on a wide range of corporate transactions including the attempted takeover of British Energy, leading on a series of acquisitions for AXA as they looked to grow a network of IFAs and working on the private-equity backed management buyout of GAIL’s bakery.

After a period working with a boutique commercial law firm in London, he joined the market leading funds and indirect real assets team at Nabarro LLP as a senior associate.

At Nabarro LLP, and subsequently CMS Cameron McKenna following the three-way merger in May 2017, Tanveer advised pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, property and logistics companies on private equity real estate investments, joint ventures and structured or ‘wrapped’ real estate sales and purchases. Transactions Tanveer worked on included advising Goodman Group and Legal & General on the sale of the Arlington Business Parks portfolio to US PE house, TPG Real Estate and also advising AXA, Temasek and a large Canadian pension fund on their joint venture arrangements for the acquisition of the site of the Bishopsgate development in the City.

Since leaving private practice, Tanveer has worked for a number of clients as a consultant lawyer, including Royal Mail, Standard Chartered Bank, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Redevco.

In his spare time, Tanveer moonlights as a taxi driver for his two teenage children.

After graduating with a BSc from UCL, and a dalliance with one of the world’s first digital music management businesses of the early noughties, Melin decided to pursue a career in law.

Wanting to be close to clients from day one, Melin trained in-house at JPMorgan Chase, moving on to become the group legal counsel for Totally Money, a private equity backed FinTech start-up, where she was responsible for all legal and regulatory matters.

Since that early part of her career, Melin has advised clients ranging from entrepreneurs and household brands to both national and global businesses, having particular expertise in FMCG, financial services and scale-ups. Her practice spans the entire gamut of commercial, technology, advertising and sponsorship law. Highlights include leading on the launch of a YouTube channel for one client and the product rebranding and UK launch of new beverages. She also quite enjoyed being on the red carpet from a film deal she negotiated (you have to take it when you get it!)

Melin has two children who firmly keep any free time at bay, and her hobbies now mainly involve managing their social calendar.
